Congratulations to Kori Andrea! We are very proud of you – it has been so difficult to keep this secret until the embargo was lifted.

Vanier scholarships consider three equally weighted selection criteria: academic excellence, research potential, and leadership. Vanier Scholars demonstrate leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering and health.  They are open to all nationalities. The Department of Chemistry at Memorial now hosts 2 Vanier Scholars.

She is one of only 4 chemists to receive this prestigious scholarship in 2018. http://www.vanier.gc.ca/en/scholar_search-chercheur_recherche_2018.html

Kori has demonstrated research potential through her varied undergraduate program and experiences at Cape Breton University, Nova Scotia (including a summer spent in Germany sponsored by DAAD). She is an advocate for #WomenInSTEM and she is currently supervising two WISE-SSEP NL students in our labs.  She has written two full papers on her research at Memorial to date and a third is at an advanced stage of preparation. Congratulations again Kori! We are looking forward to supporting you in your research and ambitions over the next few years, and can’t wait to see where you end up! You are a science superstar 😀
